Eyewitness Media Ltd is a media company based near Leeds making ground-breaking TV, film and media from a visual, diverse perspective.

Since 2019, Eyewitness Media has co-produced six programmes for broadcast, including the innovative BSL comedy sketch show Deaf Funny (winner of the RTS Yorkshire Writer award 2018 and Best TV Programme at Deafest 2019),along with two short charity films, Coercion and The Test for SignHealth. The company has produced daily blog content via the Limping Chicken site.

The company was set up by RTS-award winning screenwriter Charlie Swinbourne, also a director and journalist, who has made comedies, dramas and documentaries from a Deaf cultural perspective for the last decade, as well as working as a journalist and editing the Limping Chicken blog for deaf people.

Charlie’s creations as a writer include co-writing the BAFTA winning Casualty episode about the deaf nurse Jade, an episode of Jimmy McGovern’s Moving On, CBBC’s Princess Mirror-Belle, and creating a storyline for Eastenders. He also wrote the award-winning dramas My Song and Departure Lounge, rude mockumentary Hands Solo, the mini-series The Fingerspellers and YouTube smash Coming Out. A short film for the NSPCC he wrote has clocked up over 1 million views online.

As a writer-director, he made the innovative BSL comedy sketch show Deaf Funny (winner of the RTS Yorkshire Writer award 2018 and Best TV Programme at Deafest 2019), the series of Found documentaries, the Four Deaf Yorkshiremen comedies, and hit short film The Kiss.

As a journalist, Charlie has written for the Guardian, Mirror and BBC Online. He is the editor of the world’s most popular Deaf blog, The Limping Chicken, which has clocked up over 6 million views since 2012. Shortly after starting the site, Charlie broke the worldwide news story about the fake interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.

Charlie has appeared on Radio 4, BBC Breakfast News, BBC World Service, BBC Trending,  Watchdog, BBC London, the BBC Ouch podcast, and the Abnormally Funny People Podcast.
